Dr. Day is a volunteer with Healing The Children, a non-profit corporation dedicated to assisting children who cannot receive needed medical care because adequate medical resources or funds are not available where they live. The long term goal is to establish a continuing effort to assist children in need. Medical care is provided by doctors,
medical personnel, and hospitals that donate
services. Bringing children to the United States one at a time is only one of the ways we are meeting the needs of children around the world. Each year, hundreds more children can be reached by traveling medical teams.
Composed of highly skilled surgeons, doctors and nurses these teams spend one to two weeks in a country providing services for those who can not afford them or are too far away from the help they need. The dedicated professionals take time off from work and pay their own airfares to travel to countries such as Columbia, Latvia and Guatemala.
Dr. Day has traveled multiple times to Guatemala, testing and fitting children with hearing aids. She is the Audiology coordinator for the Western Washington-Oregon chapter. She has helped many children and their families in Guatemala City, Lake Atitlan area and in Zacapa working in the deaf school. These trips typically occur once a year. During the year there are fund raising effort to purchase the needed hearing aids and supplies.
